A creative practice & living body of work

I’m Kath. Come see things
from a different angle.

What makes something
worth noticing?

Hi, I’m Kath.

I notice the things that don’t quite add up. In a business, a story, or the things we’ve been taught to believe about ourselves.

I work across creative strategy and execution, through contracts, collaborations and the right role. I also write about discernment, motherhood and building the muscle of self-commitment. Especially when you’re the woman leaving yourself until last.

Different work. Same person asking what’s really going on.

TO LOOK THROUGH ONE LENS IS TO SEE THE SUBJECT.
TO LOOK THROUGH MANY IS TO SEE THE WORLD.

To me, that is art.

It was all there
in the album.

I found this in an album full of school camps, friends and things I apparently needed to photograph. Including a couch in a Canberra museum. I’m absent from plenty of the photos. I know why: I was more interested in what I was seeing.

Even then, I was drawn to how things came together. Flowers, colour in the backyard, a room. Art, design and technology were my favourite classes, along with any teacher willing to entertain my “peculiar” way of reaching an outcome. Their word, not mine.

And here we have long-life milk and a muesli bar. I’m fairly confident the Year Six girls were doing a content shoot that night. Whatever that meant back then.

Looking through the album, I recognised an instinct I’d spent years second-guessing. The creating never stopped. But the impatience when I paused to look, the comments when the camera came out, made it something I began to hide. Making work for someone else? No problem. Putting my own out there meant meeting that doubt every time.

I wish I’d held on to that freedom a little more fiercely. But we find our way home.

That’s why this photo means something to me. It helped me recognise a way of seeing that existed long before I had the language for it.

It’s also why I talk about lenses and threads. A landscape can become the starting point for a fashion campaign. A conversation can change how I understand a business. Looking through more than one lens lets me notice those connections. Following the thread is how I turn them into something.

Creative work is

a way of seeing. finding the live wire. making it connect. being bold in your creative. aligning attention with intention. an obsession with the process. seeing a mountain. Imagining a campaign. aesthetics as a vehicle, not a destination. creating your own uniform. exploring culture. taking a wider lens. questioning everything. Exploring what emerges. rebelling against mass appeal.

It starts with the way I see. It becomes useful when it changes the way your audience sees you.

Spin
the lens.

A little creative provocation. A thought about life. Possibly the thing you’ve been avoiding. Go on, see what lands.

Tap the wheel. Take what lands.

The wheel is waiting

Somewhere between the thing you know and the thing you have not named yet.
Spin first

Selected work.

A look inside my creative work.

Another film is taking shape.

A new piece of work will land here soon.

Take a seat.

Something catch your eye? There’s more through each window.

A few things I keep thinking about.

Have a seat.
Tell me what you’re making.
